Why playing small caused me to lose big

Check out this math: Target income: RM20k, Money invested: RM200k, Monthly overhead: RM25k, Final debt: RM60k

RM20k per month.

That was my big entrepreneurial dream. Looking back now, bodoh gila.

Not the dream itself - RM20k is decent money. But the way I chased it? Madness.

Check out this math:

  • Target income: RM20k

  • Money invested: RM200k

  • Monthly overhead: RM25k

  • Final debt: RM60k

You see the problem? I spent 10 TIMES my income goal just to START. Then committed to overhead that exceeded my target income. The math so stupid, I'm a bit malu to write it.

But here's the real tragedy... There were guys making RM20k with:

  • No shop

  • No inventory

  • No RM25k overhead

  • Less than that on startup cost

While I burned RM200k, they built RM20k businesses from their bedroom.

I ultimately realized that what killed me was playing small.

"Wait Kon, you spent RM200k - how is that playing small?"

Because my THINKING was small. When you aim for RM20k, your brain works at RM20k level. Your creativity operates at RM20k. Your problem-solving thinks RM20k solutions.

That's why I threw money at everything. Can't get customers? Call friends. Sales dropping? Give discount. Still struggling? Hire more staff. RM20k thinking in a RM200k investment. Until I had nothing left.

Meanwhile, entrepreneurs with RM20 MILLION mindsets were solving problems with creativity, not credit cards.

They asked different questions:

  • How can I deliver 10x value at this price?

  • What would make customers HUNT for my product?

  • How can I become THE authority in my space?

While I asked: "How to survive this month ah?"

As Myron Golden taught: "At the highest levels, entrepreneurs are paid according to their creativity, not their activity."

But when you're playing small, creativity dies. You're too busy firefighting to innovate.

The lesson I learned is that: Stop putting caps on what you think you can earn.

Not because you'll magically hit millions tomorrow. But because uncapped thinking forces uncapped creativity.

When I stopped thinking "How to make RM20k" and started thinking "How to create RM1mil value"...

Different ideas emerged. Better solutions appeared. Bigger opportunities revealed themselves.

Suddenly I saw:

  • Systems that scale without scaling costs

  • Ways to multiply value without multiplying effort

  • How to command premium prices by becoming irreplaceable

The same brain that couldn't figure out RM20k profitably... Started seeing RM30k months as inevitable once I removed the ceiling.

Now I use AI to amplify this uncapped thinking. Not to replace creativity - to enhance it.

AI helps me:

  • Sharpen my offers

  • Craft authority content

  • .... and doing so consistently.

The entrepreneur who burned RM200k chasing RM20k? He was working hard but thinking small.

Today, I work smart and think unlimited.
