Why goodwill isn't enough in business
Just had coffee with an old friend. His story made my blood boil. Spent 12 years building a business. Just sold it. His share of the proceeds? Zero. Why? Kena play out by business partner.
The only "blessing"? He didn't end up bearing more losses. 12 years of blood, sweat and tears... and what did he get? Just the salary he drew throughout that period.
Might as well worked 9-5 right?
As I listened to his story, I reflected upon what I always thought about finding the "right" business partners - someone to cover our weaknesses, to complement our strengths, and to share the journey
Sounds good in theory. But reality check - humans are selfish, priorities change. Money changes people - "Good" partners turn bad
And when that happens?
People with no integrity will happily betray you without blinking. Brother also no mercy.
I still believe in partnerships, but I've learned to look beyond just "goodwill" and "trust".
Now before I enter any partnership, I ask two questions:
1. Can I exit anytime without drama?
2. Does the system ensure our interests align?
It's easy to be a good partner when profits rolling in. True character shows up when things get tough.
That's why I've spent the last year building a business model where:
Partnership is systematically win-win
Everyone's interests naturally align
You can walk away anytime
No politics, no drama
No 12-year regrets

Always cheering you on,
Kon
P.S. Choose your business model before choosing your business partners. The right system prevents the wrong behavior.
